Once you’ve explored the bright and airy shopping malls of Dalton Park you can also discover 55 acres of landscaped Parkland that are opposite the shopping centre.

In 2003 over 600,000 cubic metres of colliery spoil was shifted in order to create space for the construction of the buildings and car parks of the retail outlet. All of the material excavated on site was re-used to create the hills and valleys of the Parkland. Re-cycled organic waste was used to enrich the colliery shale so that colonies of woodland, wetland and wildflower meadows could be established.
Today you can find 3 signposted walks within the Parkland with various wildlife habitats.
You can choose from three walks depending on your ability – look out for ducks and geese as they stop at the lake on their way to nearby wetlands, and wading birds such as Grey Heron in the reedy shallows.
Did you know, the largest lake at Dalton Park acts as a balancing pond, storing water during times of high rainfall and releasing it slowly back into the Dalton Dene that flows beneath.
