As we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, we’re proud to shine a light on a special part of Lakeside Village that honours the bravery and sacrifice of some of our nation’s greatest heroes.
Located just outside our shopping centre, the Victoria Cross Walk is a touching tribute to 59 recipients of the Victoria Cross – the highest award for valour in the British Armed Forces. Each name engraved on the walkway tells a powerful story of courage, sacrifice, and selflessness.
This commemorative walk, created by the Victoria Cross Trust, was officially opened here at Lakeside Village in 2017. It’s a place for reflection, education, and remembrance – a quiet path where families, shoppers and visitors can pause and pay their respects to those who served their country with incredible bravery.
We encourage everyone visiting us this May to take a moment to explore the Victoria Cross Walk, especially during this historic VE Day milestone. It’s a moving reminder of the true meaning of freedom and the cost at which it came.
