This weekend we’ll be transporting shoppers back in time, thanks to an interactive event hosted by the Victoria Cross Trust.
The ‘Military Heroes’ event will see displays from the mid-Victorian era, as well as WW1 and WW2 and the Cold War, right up to the late 1990s/2000s.
We’ll also be welcoming WW2 era dancers and singers to the centre, along with re-enactors dressed in uniforms who will be on hand to answer questions and pose for photos.
Paul Grimley, events coordinator at the Victoria Cross Trust, said: “We’re really excited about this weekend’s Military Heroes event at Lakeside Village.
“We’ll be displaying a whole host of memorabilia, giving visitors the chance to find out more about Great Britain’s military history and enjoy photo opportunities, too.”
The Victoria Cross Trust is a charitable organisation which works to ensure that the family graves of Victoria Cross recipients across the UK are maintained and remembered for generations to come.
The charity visited the centre earlier this year to host its D-Day commemoration event.
Paul added: “By holding events such as this we can raise the vital funds that allow us to continue to clean the graves of the brave Victoria Cross holders. It can cost up to £800 to clean just one of them and there are more than 700 across the country.
“We’re looking forward to returning to Lakeside Village and to meeting the centre’s kind-hearted shoppers once more, giving them the chance to explore and find out more about our interactive displays, and to bring a smile to their faces with our WW2 dancers and singers.”
The Military Heroes event will take place on Saturday 21 August (9am – 4pm) and Sunday 22 August (10am – 4pm)
