Lakeside Village raise more than £5,000 for cancer charity

A local cancer charity has benefited from a cash boost after being chosen by Lakeside Village customers and staff to be their charity of the year for 2018/19.
Team Verrico were selected, after a public vote nomination was held online and a shortlisted vote was held at the centre and have worked with Lakeside Village on a number of events over the last year raising more than £5000.
Lyndsey Parry, deputy centre manager for Lakeside Village said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Team Verrico, getting to know the charity, the team and hear all about the great work that they do to help people who have had a cancer diagnosis.
“During their time as our charity we’ve got involved in everything from a Dragon Boat Race to car washing and we’ve created opportunities for the team to fund raise at the centre and at our partners venues, with our recent sponsored Family Fun Day at Doncaster Racecourse being the last event for Team Verrico as our charity of the year.
“Having a named charity of the year allows us to focus our fundraising efforts for the whole year and means that we can try to a raise a significant amount of money for the charity.
“We want to thank all of our customers, who have given generously, and our stores who have supported the charity throughout the year.
“Our next charity of the year will be announced soon, and we’ll be finding new ways to raise money for a worthy cause in our region.”
Team Verrico followed Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, the centre’s first ever charity of the year who were selected in 2017.
Paul Verrico, from Team Verrico, said: “It has been a great partnership working with the team at Lakeside Village and has enabled us to get the Team Verrico name out there to the public so that people can get to know the charity and the work that we do.
“As an entirely volunteer led charity we are dependent on the support of local organisations to help us secure our objectives.
“We are always on the lookout for businesses to adopt Team Verrico for the year and develop a partnership with us and we look forward to continuing to support those who need it.”
