40 days – 40 items for Lent

Monday 15th February 2021

Our Deputy Centre Manager Lyndsey is set to give up 40 items over 40 days for Lent, here she tells us why.
I don’t know about you but the idea of giving up chocolate, crisps or gin in the current situation fills me with dread so instead of giving something up I’m going to be giving something away, well 40 somethings actually.
A friend sent me the idea through and its simple, you get a big bin liner and each day for the 40 days of Lent you put something into the bag that you no longer use or need and bag it all up for charity.
I know the charity shops are not open at the moment but don’t let that put you off, when they do open up, they will be desperate for donations as their fundraising has been hit extra hard over the past 12 months.
I’m already looking around the house and spotting things that will be going in the bag. This way you are giving something up but in a way that also benefits others.
Your unloved items will help to raise funds for your favourite charity, and someone is destined to buy them and give them a new lease of life. Be it a vase that no longer fits in with your colour scheme or a dress that has never quite fit you right. Now is as good a time as any to declutter your home and donate to charity.
I’m really looking forward to getting started with my 40 days and it will be great to have a clear out knowing that my items will raise money for a good cause.
40 items in 40 days will be a challenge but I’m sure if we all look hard enough there must be 40 items in our houses that we no longer use or are ready for a new home.
Good luck if you decide to join me on this challenge.
